Extraction and Statistics of Characteristic Parameters of Road Profiles

Abstract

It’s reviewed that the components of measurement system of road surface data and pre-processing methods of road surface profile in automotive test. Based on the measurement data of road surface profile, there are some characteristic parameters of road surface profile which are extracted, including the basic statistics (Mean and Standard Deviation), International Roughness Index (IRI) and the parameters of Power Spectrum Density (PSD). After the introduction of extraction methods of characteristic parameters of road profiles, many actual measurement road surface data in Beijing as examples, their characteristic parameters of road profiles were extracted and these characteristic parameters of road profiles were compiled statistics. The extraction and statistics results show that these extraction characteristic parameters methods of road profile are simple and has obvious effect. These extraction characteristic parameters can be widely applied to vehicle tests and highway maintenance and repair. Finally, extraction and statistics methods of road characteristic parameters are summarized and the prospects of their application are presented.
