Abstract

Redundancy represents a key factor for structural robustness. It reflects the security of structure under damage. In this paper, an analysis method based on the structural response sensitivity is proposed as the measurement for the redundancy of single-layer reticulated dome under load. The response sensitivity is the derivation of element strain to elastic modulus of structural materials. The effect of changing of the elastic modulus on the structure is considered in this method. Further, the other redundancy represented by structural load capacity is used to test the effectiveness of the proposed method. It is shown that the redundancy of the structure based on the response sensitivity is consistent with the result obtained by the load capacity. The redundancy is an index which indicates whether or not the component is importance in the structure. For those elements with small redundancy are the key components in the structure, whose failure will cause great influence on the structure.
