Effects of Structural Parameters on Chaotic Motion of Nonlinear Flutter for a two dimensional Wing

Abstract

The chaotic motion of the nonlinear flutter system for a two dimensional wing is a complex nonlinear dynamic phe-nomenon. The effects of the structural parameters on the chaotic motion characteristics of the nonlinear flutter system are investigated, to explore the control approaches of chaotic motion for nonlinear flutter system. The flutter motion equation of a two dimensional wing with a control surface is built and cubic rotating stiffness is assumed for the control surface. The bifurcation diagrams of the system are obtained by numerical calculations for different damping coefficients in the rotating DOF of the control surface and the pitching DOF of the wing. The results demonstrate that the chaotic motion characteristics are weakly affected by the intensity of control stiffness nonlinearity, but the periodic windows in the chaotic motion area are strongly affected by the damping coefficient. The periodic windows disappear when the damping coefficient is decreased monotonously to a certain extent, and the critical flutter velocity is decreased simultaneously. It is found that the periodic windows can be eliminated without reducing the critical flutter velocity by decreasing the damping coefficient in the rotating DOF of control surface while increasing the damping coefficient in the pitching DOF of wing.
