Abstract

Frequency-averaged damping loss factor is one of the most important parameters for structural vibration response prediction using statistical energy analysis (SEA). Two experimental methods for damping loss factor identification that are power injection and impulse response decay methods are studied. On the basis of the simulated data from analytical solution of dynamics response for a two-dimensional plate structure, the damping loss factors in a wide frequency range are obtained using the two methods respectively. Also, the influences of various frequency range and structure damping on the results are selectively analyzed. On this basis, an experimental investigation on a vibration damping sheet is carried out using the two methods, whose respective results are compared and combined to obtain the damping loss factor of the test sheet. Additionally, an empirical formula for damping loss factor evaluation is proposed, which can provide a valuable reference for engineering.
