Abstract

A new identification method of impact loads based on transient statistical energy analysis theory is proposed in the paper. With the approach, the location and the input energy of impact load can be firstly identified from the energy balance equation of system. The amplitude spectrum of impact load is then derived from input energy of impact load under the assumption of the constant value on itself within each analytical frequency band. A parametric fitting scheme is also developed to reconstruct the time history of impact load for the given waveform of load in time domain. The approach is validated through impact load identification experiments of a two-plate coupling structural system. The results show that the location and input energy of impact load can be identified accurately with the presented identification method. Furthermore, the computed time history of impact load obtained from fitting scheme has a good agreement with the measured one when the waveform of load in time domain is given beforehand. The present approach provides an effective and feasible way for impact load identification of engineering structures.
