Dynamic response of a cylindrical cavity to an anti-plane impact load

Abstract

The transient response to an anti-plane impact load of an infinite elastic soil body containing a cylindrical cavity is studied. Using the residual variable method combined with Laplace transform and inverse transform, in the frequency domain the displacement and stress of the soil in general expression are respectively obtained. And the numerical solutions of the problem are presented by using the numerical inverse Laplace transform. In the time domain the dynamic responses of the infinite elastic soil are analyzed under axial impact load with a cylindrical cavity, and the calculation results are compared with the static case, the wave spreads and dissipates outward, and attenuates along the radial, the attenuation rare is smaller compared with that under static conditions, and the farther the wave is from the source, the greater the difference between the two. After wave arrival, the stress and displacement of the soil at this point occurre triangular changes, the same with the external load: increase at first and then decrease, remain zero finally.
