Abstract

The acoustic radiation and acoustic power from a cylinder excited by a point force is estimated by employing the approximate Kirchhoff integration method. And the relationship between the sensor number requirement and estimation precision is investigated. Once the estimation precision of one field point’s sound pressure level or sound power level is given, it is found that more sensors are needed to meet this estimation precision when the frequency increases in general. However, at the peak frequency of field point’s sound pressure level or sound power level, the valley of the required sensors’ number appears. The position of the excitation force has little effect on the sensor number requirement when the sound pressure of single field point is estimated. Then the required sensor number of the whole space sound pressure estimation is investigated. Compared with the curve of required sensor number when estimating a single field point sound pressure, the curve of required sensor number of the whole space sound pressure estimation is smoother.
