Abstract

Analyzing the load model of shell structures of a supercavitating underwater vehicle in variable motion, equations of plane motion of the vehicle loaded a constant thrust are deduced. The resistance and impact forces are gained. The structural response is calculated by the finite element method. Axial distribution of the maximum stress in time domain and the dynamic response of several typical nodes are studied when the vehicle is in retarded motion. The results indicate that the thrust force and the stress of the vehicle are great, and it needs a great structural strength. Maximal values in spatial domain of the maximal stress in time domain of the vehicle in retarded motion are located at the tip, tail of the body and in the middle of the cylindrical shell. Several frequencies have a great effect on the structural response. These results should be helpful for structure force and strength analysis and optimum design of supercavitating vehicles.
