Abstract

Based on complex variable theory in plane elasticity, lateral displacement of infinite medium with an opening is derived subjected to a far field shear stress, then the displacement relationship between the medium with and without an opening is also obtained, which can be applied to solve soil layers displacement of response displacement method based on soil layers displacement difference. The performance of the method was evaluated and compared with that of the typical response displacement method through several selected benchmark numerical examples, such as circular shield tunnels and rectangular underground stations. It is shown in the study that response displacement method based on soil layers displacement difference is suitable for deep underground structures and not suitable for hard surrounding soil. It is also found that the method depends on solving precision of soil spring stiffness.
