Abstract

A high-speed moving elevator is subjected to displacement excitation due to building sway caused by all kinds of horizontal loads. The excitation is a significant factor which causes transverse vibration of elevator suspended systems. Aiming at the transverse vibration of elevator suspended systems, the partial differential equations are developed using the Hamilton’s principle. The Galerkin’s method is used to discretize the governing equations, which can be solved by numerical methods. The response of typical systems under excitation of different frequencies is calculated by numerical example, and the effects of the spring stiffness, the lumped and distributed damping on the vibration are investigated. The results of simulation show that it often results in a passage through resonance conditions in the suspended system when the frequencies of the car and ropes approach the frequency of the inertial load resulting from the building sway; the vibration of elevator suspended systems is restrained more or less through change the spring stiffness and dampings.
