Abstract

A new seismic damage model of SDOF systems is developed based on the variation of the strain energy dissipation capability during push-over process. The seismic damage index is divided into residual displacement damage index and degradation damage index according to the damage causes. Effect of ground motion duration on SDOF system is quantified as the degradation damage index. Based on the damage analysis of three SDOF structures with different period by 56 ground motions, correlation degree between 4 evaluation indicators (input energy, duration of input energy, ratio of maximum momentary input energy to input energy and 90% relative energy duration) and degradation damage index are investigated. The results show that the input energy which is affected indistinctively by damping model and hysteretic model is most correlated with the degradation damage index of SDOF system. Therefore, input energy is a nice evaluation indicator for ground motion duration effects on SDOF system.
