Abstract

As finite element (FE) model updating method may fall into local optimizations, a new FE updating method based onadaptive response surface with global convergence properties is presented in this paper. In the process of model updating, the space of design parameters continued to shrink around the global optimal solution, to reconstruct more accurate response surface model. Meanwhile, as the heritable Latin hypercube design was used to select to sample points, the number of total sample points could be reduced to large extent. Numerical examples have demonstrated that the traditional finite element model updating method is tend to be trapped by local optimizations, however, this situation can be avoided by using this new method and the finite element model be updated efficiently with only fewer sample points.
