Abstract

In this paper, ground motion spatial variation effects on seismic response of power transmission tower-line system are studied by numerical simulation. A three-dimensional finite element model of transmission tower-line coupled system considering the geometric nonlinearity of transmission line is established. Based on wave passage effect, coherency loss effect, different local site effect and multi-dimensional nature of ground motion, spatially varying ground motion time histories are simulated according to power spectral density function, coherency loss function and Code for Design of Seismic of Electrical Installations. The effects of wave passage effect, coherency loss effect and different local site effect on seismic response of transmission tower-line system are investigated, respectively. The results show that ground motion spatial variation effects have significant influence on the seismic response of transmission tower-line system, and neglecting these effects will underestimate the response of structure. Ground motion spatial variation effects should be considered in seismic design of transmission line practical engineering.
