Abstract

A finite element model of collision between a car and lower leg was established and simulated through LS-DYNA. According to Euro-NCAP regulation, the model was verified through experiment. A cross-section profile of steel energy absorption panel (EAP) was selected based on the pedestrian protection performance comparison of five structures. Taking the material yield strength and thickness of EAP as design variables, a full factorial experiment was conducted. The injury index Response Surface Model (RSM) of lower leg was fit based on the experiment results. An optimized parameter combination is obtained by using sequential quadratic programming method, which provides design guidance for the structure of steel EAP.
