Abstract

This paper presents an identification method of distributed external load using a flexible cantilever beam as a research object. This method is based on a variable structure controller and an external load observer, where the controller is used for the suppression of the beam vibration and the observer is used to observe the external load. Simulation results indicate that the controller is remarkable in suppressing the beam vibration, and the observer is effective in identifying the external load in real-time.
