Cavity shape influence supercavitating vehicle in maneuvering rotational movement

Abstract

This paper presents the concept of the supercavitating vehicle cavity pattern, unified with supercavitating vehicle cavity pattern to describe vehicle shape, cavity shape, and their geometric matching. Supercavitating vehicle hydrodynamic characteristics were expressed by quantitative values. Supercavity mathematical model of maneuvering rotational movement was established, and supercavity shape expression of maneuvering rotational movement was deduced. Researching the transition from rectilinear motion to steady maneuvering rotational movement of supercavitating vehicle, the variation law of supercavity shape was given. Analyzing the influence of angular velocity and centrifugal force to supercavity shape in maneuvering rotational movement, two factors affecting supercavity shape were revealed. Finally, constrained by geometric matching of cavity shape and vehicle shape, a preliminary assessment of maneuvering capability was made, and the critical rotation angular velocity characterized maneuvering capability was calculated by simulation.
