Abstract

Transfer Matrix Method(TMM) was used to analyze the vibration characteristics of the helicopter test rig. The torsional vibration natural frequencies and the modal shapes were obtained; Furthermore, each order natural frequency and the relationship between the lateral vibration and the supported stiffness of the test rig transmission were obtained. By experiment, three axial vibrations were measured. After the rotor ran over the resonance of the test rig to speed of 960rpm, the test rig would have been in steady run for about 2-3 seconds then the vibration went to diverge. That frequency of the spindle speed leading to vibration divergence was just right the 1st order natural frequency of the lateral vibration. Based on the vibration analysis, it was concluded that the vibration divergence was related to the supported stiffness of the transmission, and two methods on dealing with this malfunction were given.
