Abstract

The acoustic leak detection method for natural gas pipelines is the research hotspot and the leak signal process methods restrict its development. In order to obtain effective acoustic characteristics, the energy distribution of acoustic signal is clearly portrayed based on the Hilbert-Huang Transform method when leakage occurs for natural gas pipelines. Firstly, the acoustic signal is acquired by the experimental loop and then is processed based on the empirical mode decomposition to obtain intrinsic mode functions(IMFs). And the IMFs are transformed by HHT to get instantaneous frequency, Hilbert spectrum and marginal spectrum. Secondly, the acoustic signal acquired by field experiments is processed to get Hilbert spectrum. Thirdly, effective acoustic characteristics are extracted. The results show that the acoustic signal can be processed by HHT and effective characteristic can be extracted, which can provide criterion for leak detection.
