Abstract

In order to investigate the impact dynamic properties of light-weight foam concrete, semiconductor strain test technology and incident pulse shaping technique are adopted to modify the aluminium split Hopkinson pressure bar apparatus to make it suitable for low impedance porous materials. Then the problems, difficult in collecting transmitted signal, are solved by semiconductor strain test technology and the internal stress uniformity requirements in loading process are also met by incident pulse shaping technique. Uniaxial impact compression tests in various striker velocities are conducted by changing the pressure of the compressed gas for light-weight foam concrete with density of 220 kg/m3. And the test results show that under impact loads the foam concrete specimens go through 3 stages, linear elastic stage, yield stage and pore compaction stage. Moreover, there is a strong linear correlation between the average strain rate of foam concrete specimens and the striker velocity.
