Abstract

At the beginning of the water entry, the space capsule suffers from a big impact load, which has an important effect on the safety of the capsule structure and the people inside. Base on NASA experimental model,The process of capsule water entry is simulated by fluid structure interaction method in LS-DYNA. The dynamic response of capsule is discussed respectively in the vertical and horizontal direction. The simulated maximal accelerations are agreed well with the NASA experimental data. On the basis of simulation, the response of capsule is analyzed in different angles, masses and postures. The bigger the water entry angle, the smaller the acceleration of capsule. The greater the mass,the small the acceleration. In different postures, the maximal acceleration in the situation of positive incline water entry is bigger than the value in the situation of negative incline water entry. And the maximal acceleration in the situation of barycenter below is bigger than the value in the situation of barycenter above. After impact water, the capsule is more stable in the situation of negative incline and barycenter below.
