Abstract
In order to study the effect of crack on vibration characteristics of spiral bevel gears transmission system, A three-dimensional contact model of a pair of spiral bevel gears with and without crack was respectively established by Pro/E software. Based on ANSYS software, the mesh stiffness under two different operating conditions with and without crack were calculated and compared.A dynamic model with eight degree freedom for the spiral bevel gears supported by rotor was developed. The dynamic differential equations from the model were solved using function ode45( ) in MATLAB software, and dynamic response under two different states with and without crack were received. The results show the crack affects the dynamic response characteristics of the spiral bevel gear transmission system, including vibration amplitude and motion form. The crack even leads to quasi-period and chaotic motion in some cases, and causes the orderliness of system to decrease and the working performance to become worse. The conclusion is obtained that it is practicable to diagnosis of structural damage for spiral bevel gear according to variation of dynamic characteristics.
