Abstract

It is useful for getting the auxiliary ultrasonic vibration of workpiece by using rectangular blocky ultrasonic horn,which has abundant resonant frequency. But the structure of the ultrasonic horn should be optimized designed by distributing cylindrical holes to make the coupled vibration characteristic satisfy the requirement of the auxiliary ultrasonic vibration. The apparent elasticity method was adopted to design the basic dimension of the rectangular block’s radiant surface. The FEM method was used to study the influence of height, number and diameter of the cylindrical holes on the ultrasonic vibration characteristics of rectangular blocky ultrasonic horn and the vibration amplitude of the radiant surface. According to the results, the redesigned dimension of the blocky horn was 137.3×121.2×40mm, in which the cylindrical holes were uniform distributed with the number of 9×9 and the diameter with 7mm. The working frequency of the horn was 20 kHz and it could get uniform vibration amplitude along Z direction in center of the radiant surface, which was suitable for loading workpiece to realize assisted vertical ultrasonic vibration.
