A Substructure Method of Structural Model Updating for Long-Span Cable-Stayed Bridges

Abstract

A substructure method of model updating is proposed for cable-stayed bridge. Several substructures are determined according to the structural system properties of cable-stayed bridge. Then, the sensitivity analysis of structural response characteristics with respect to the updating design parameters of cable-stayed bridge are carried out to confirmed the independency and reasonable of the substructures, and the model updating sequence of the substructures is also determined. An objective function is constructed by using the residuals between tested and analytical data of each substructure, and Genetic Algorithm is implemented to the optimization problem of model updating. Numerical study and experimental verification of the proposed substructure model updating approach is performed based on a scaled physical model of a long-span cable-stayed bridge. The numerical simulation indicates that the model updating has high precision, and the model updating based on experimental data can reach reasonable explains which consistent with the actual situation. As a result, this substructure method works well and can be easily implemented in practice.
