SPH CALCULATION METHOD FOR PROPER MESHING AND COUPLING CONTACT OF GEARS

Abstract

Based on the kinetic equations of a pair of the gears contact meshing and impact, a smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) method is developed to simulate proper meshing and coupling contact of a pair of gears by adjusting influence radius of kernel function. SPH pre-processor program was programmed correct meshing a pair of gear model, and dynamic numerical simulation is carried out by considering the meshing impact process of the gear in different conditions. The maximum dynamic stress change with time after impact of two meshing gears and distribution and changing process of dynamic stresses on tooth- profile surface are analyzed, and the dynamics stress propagation in the meshing impact process and dynamic contact stresses distribution and changing process on the near of contact surface are discussed. The paper provides with an effective new SPH numerical algorithm to dynamic contact strength evaluations and optimization design of gear transmission system.
