Nuclear island AP1000 evaporator water chamber head is the core components of the third-generation nuclear, which is the world's most widely-used and has largest difficulty of manufacturing. Vibration and flutter in heavy milling manufacturing process seriously affect and restrict the machining quality and production efficiency. In order to research the vibration modal characteristics of cutter and the main shaft system in water chamber head milling process, we first analyze characteristics of vibration in heavy milling process, through establishing three-dimensional model of machine tools (TK6920 CNC floor-type boring and milling machine) and cutter (Φ200R8 arc blade cutter), carry out finite element modal simulation analysis; then conduct mode experiment in production field, collect and process data, and carry out experimental modal analysis; by comparing the results of experimental and modal analysis, finally summarize the natural vibration characteristics of cutter and the spindle system of heavy milling machine, which lays the foundation for further study of vibration characteristics in heavy milling process.
