Dynamic response characteristics of existing tunnel structure induced by cutting blast utilized in open excavation

Abstract

To investigate and determine the effect of open excavation blasting on the dynamic characteristics of existing tunnel structure is the prerequisite for designing a scientific and reasonable controlled cutting blast scheme. Thus, in combination with the utilization of cutting blast in the open excavation segment of Yalimak tunnel, which adjacent to the top of the existing small-distance tunnel, the vibration characteristics of the existing tunnel structure during blasting were investigated by numerical simulation and field tests. The numerical simulation results indicate that the vertical PPV( Particle Peak Vibration ) on the lining of existing tunnel is higher than the horizontal PPV and plays a major role in blasting vibration control as open excavation blasting is performed. The vertical PPV on the spandrel of right existing tunnel closer to the blasting source is highest and increases obviously with the maximum charge per delay increasing. Von-Mises stress on the existing tunnel approximately follows a linear relationship with the vertical PPV, the dynamic safety factor of existing tunnel structure is 2.0 when the control value of safety vibration velocity is set to 4.5cm/s. According to the field tests results numerical simulation has been proved correct and can be utilized to guide the design of open excavation cutting blast as well as vibration measurement effectively. Moreover, the predication formula, which could be used to determine and further optimize the maximum charge per delay, has been obtained by means of regression analysis.
