Wind tunnel test on ultra-high voltage cross-rope suspension tower-line

Abstract

The wind-induced responses of cross-rope suspension tower-line is dramatically different from the self-supported UHV transmission tower-line. An aero-elastic wind tunnel test was used to investigate the wind-induced response of cross-rope suspension tower-line, changing with wind direction angle and the test velocity, both single tower model and tower-line coupling system model was carried out. Results indicate that the dynamic response of the tower-line coupling system model, changing with wind angle, works in the same law with the single the tower model, but the amplitude is apparently bigger than the single the tower model. 0°, 45°and 60° should be considered as the extreme conditions in the design process.
