Research on piston slap considering coupled vibration of hydrodynamic lubrication and dynamics of internal combustion engine

Abstract

Piston slap is the major mechanical noise source of internal combustion(IC) engine. Piston slap reduction is one of the most important countermeasures to improve the noise and vibration ability of IC engine. The influence of piston skirt and cylinder liner surface roughness on oil film dynamical behavior and piston slap was analyzed. Based on the parameter of lubricate oil film thickness and surface roughness ratio, the coupled vibration analytical model of piston skirt and cylinder liner was developed. Combined with the coupled vibration model of piston, connecting rod, crank shaft and engine block, the piston slap analytical model which take the coupled vibration of dynamics and hydrodynamic lubricate into account was constructed. The influence of Coupled vibration of Hydrodynamic Lubrication and Dynamics of IC Engine on piston movement and piston slap induced impact force was investigated. The comparison between present method and traditional method which simulate the dynamical characteristic of piston shirt and cylinder liner system by nonlinear dynamical model was discussed. Based on the experimental data, the error of the theoretical model was investigated.
