On the sound absorption of double-layered structures coated with acoustic absorption layers

Abstract

Sound absorption of double-layered steel structures coated with acoustic absorption layers is investigated. By introducing interface area factor into wave propagating theory of multiple-layered medium, the effect of acoustic coating is investigated with improved transfer matrix method. Numerical results reveal that the coating on the inner plate could reduce the effect of cavity resonance of the water between two steel structures and improve absorption coefficient significantly at lower frequency range, while the coating on outer plate has little effect on the cavity resonance.
