Shaking table model test for multi-story isolated structure on the ground with softer interlayer

Abstract

Based on shaking table model test on rigid and softer interlayer ground, dynamic characteristics of multi-story isolated structure and seismic behavior of ground are studied,superstructure acceleration response and turning effects of foundation and isolation layer are analyzed, the impact of turning effects on isolation effectiveness is studied.Test results show that ground motion is obviously weakened due to softer interlayer ground, soil-structure interaction(SSI) has more effects on dynamic characteristic of isolated structure on softer interlayer ground, the first order natural frequency is reduced and damping ratio is largely increased for SSI, the turning effects of the foundation and isolation layer are occurred on the softer interlayer ground due to SSI, the isolation layer has amplification effect on rotational acceleration response of foundation, which depends on the type of the earthquake motion inputted. SSI can increase or decrease the seismic response of isolated structure on softer interlayer ground, isolation effectiveness is closely related to the intensity of turning effects on isolation layer,when turning effects on isolation layer is enhanced, amplification factors of acceleration amplitude of floors for isolated structure are increased, isolation effectiveness is weaken, when turning effects on isolation layer is weakened, amplification factors of acceleration amplitude of floors for isolated structure are similar to the ones on rigid ground, isolation effectiveness is satisfied.
