Numerical simulation of nonstop crossing of opposite subways in a single bore tunnel

Abstract

In order to apply explicit non-linear finite element method to simulate nonstop crossing of opposite subways in a single bore tunnel, a vehicle-tunnel-soil coupled three-dimensional finite element model was established using LS-DYNA based on the virtual-reality modeling. The model was very close to the real situation, the interaction between wheel and rail and between tunnel and soil was simulated by contact method, the bottom and side boundaries of the surrounding soil were modeled by the viscous-elastic artificial boundary, water pressure of the soil and the initial stress of the vehicle-tunnel-soil were also considered. After numerical analysis, the dynamic response properties of the tunnel was obtained, the results indicated that the stress and displacement resulted from the nonstop crossing of opposite subways in a single bore tunnel were small magnitude response, and that the tunnel in such condition was stable. They provided a reference for design of such kind of tunnel.
