Abstract

The near-field ground motion is subject to be affected by the source parameters of earthquake. Based on a typical finite fault model, by using discrete wavenumber finite element method, ground motion time histories were modeled for different initiation rupture locations. Through analysis of the typical ground motion parameters, results indicate: ①the closer the initiation rupture location to ground surface, the greater the peak value of the ground motion; The acceleration is much more sensitive to the initiation rupture location than the velocity and displacement. ②The fault-normal component is more sensitive to the rupture location than the fault-parallel and vertical component. ③Although the location of initiation rupture may affect the amplitude of ground motion, the directivity features of ground motion still exist in different situation. Thus, the location effect of initial rupture of earthquake should be considered for ground motion modeling and prediction.
