Wind Tunnel Test Study on the Effect of Wind Barrier Porosity on Train-bridge System

Abstract

Based on the streamlined steel box girder cable-stayed bridge and the A type passenger train, this paper studied the effect of wind barrier porosity on train-bridge system aerodynamic characteristic by wind tunnel test. According to the theoretical analysis and experimental data, the Strouhal number of train-bridge system deceased with increasing porosity of wind barrier. With the train located windward, the porosity of wind barrier affected the Strouhal number of train-bridge system obviously. The drag coefficient of bridge deceased with increasing porosity of wind barrier. The drag coefficient of train increased with increasing porosity of wind barrier. The absolute value of lift coefficient of bridge and train increased with increasing porosity of wind barrier. Taking into consideration of the wind attack angle and the position of train, when the porosity of wind barrier was 10%, the aerodynamic force on the train and the train-bridge system were both small, it was suitable for the operational safety of train and wind resistance of bridge structures.
