Research on the vibration suppression of towers by the new turbulators

Abstract

Acoustic turbulator and eject turbulator are designed based on the mechanics of vibration to suppress the across-wind vibration of the towers.3D numerical models are set up to analysis the effect of the two new turbulators with varying parameters on the wind field around the tower. It is found that a turbulator with the turbulent velocity equaling to the first critical velocity and the turbulent frequency corresponding to the instability of the shear layer is the most effective; the eject turbulator with the same parameters as the acoustic turbulator is proved to be more effective. The conclusions provide reference and gist for the design and application of the turbulators.
