Abstract

Mass tuned damper (TMD) is a widely used device for suppressing vibrations in engineering, when the stiffness and damping coefficient of TMD deviate from the optimal value, its efficiency of vibration reduction will be greatly reduced. This paper mainly researched on validity and reliability of TMD for reducing vibrations, a parametric random deviation model of TMD system, which is suitable to practical engineering, was proposed. Monte Carlo Method was utilized in studying the validity and reliability of both STMD system and MTMD system for reducing vibration under this deviation model, the comparison and analysis on differences between these two kinds of TMD systems was studied. The results show that the validity and reliability is closely related to the mass ratio of TMD system, the structural damping ratio, the number of TMD and so on. Through analysis of numerical calculation results, some suggestions for increasing the validity and reliability of TMD system are proposed.
