Effects of the turbulent spatial correlation coefficient on buffeting responses of a triple-tower suspension bridge

Abstract

Considering the situation of the difficulty in obtaining exactly spatial correlation coefficients, the Taizhou Yangtze River Highway Bridge was taken as an example. The three-dimensional fluctuating wind field of this bridge was simulated with harmonic synthetic method. And the nonlinear buffeting analysis on the bridge was conducted in time domain based on ANSYS. During the research period, dimensionless decay factors λ of Davenport correlation function was set as the control parameter and the analysis of the influence of spatial correlation coefficient of fluctuating wind on wind-induced buffeting response of long-span triple-tower suspension bridge was focused on. Results show that the spatial correlation coefficient of fluctuating wind has great influence on wind-induced buffeting response of the bridge. The lateral and torsional buffeting displacements at the mid-span decrease with the augment of the decay factor, while those of the vertical increase slightly when the decay factor turns larger. At the same time, the difference of buffeting responses caused by various decay factors could reach 50%. The results can provide references for wind-induced buffeting analysis of long-span triple-tower suspension bridges.
