Abstract

When identifying the depth of cracks in mass concrete structure, especially those with great depths, the impact echo method and ultrasonic methods always fail due to the rapid energy attenuation of P wave. In this paper, Surface Wave Spectral Energy Transmission Ratio (SETR)method is used to estimate the depths of surface-opening deep cracks in concrete. The effect of distance between transducers and the number of cracks on surface wave transmission ratio is investigated through experiments and FE analysis. It is found that the SETR can be effectively used for the crack depth estimation of concrete structures.
