Abstract

The dynamic characteristics of the standing still crowd-plate system are studied by adopting the energy method.The coupled model of crowd-plate system has been developed by considering the standing human body as an elastic non-uniform column with the distributed mass, damping and stiffness. The first kind of Chebyshev polynomials is applied to construction of the trial function for plates. The governing differential equations of the crowd-plate coupled system are derived out by using the Lagrange equation. The influence of the human occupants standing on rectangular plates on vibration characteristics is investigated. The effects of the mass ratio of crowd to the plate and the position of human occupants on the dynamic properties of the plate are discussed in detail.The results show that regarding a crowd as a elastic system added to the plate is more scientific and rational compared with added masses. The influence on dynamic characteristics of the crowd-plate coupled system is much more significant when the crowd locates at the larger dynamic deformation of the plate.
