Study on wind velocity profile of steady thunderstorm downburst

Abstract

Thunderstorm downburst is the main reason for the formation of extreme wind loads in the non-typhoon area. In this paper, both static impinging jet instrument and large eddy simulation (LES) have been used to do the experiment and numerical simulation for thunderstorm downburst. The distribution of radial and vertical velocity has been investigated. Given the existing radial velocity profile model doesn’t apply to the radial velocity at all radial locations, combined the experiment and LES results, a new radial velocity profile which suits all radial locations is proposed. Meanwhile, the wind flied is divided into three part according to the characteristic of vertical velocity, the vertical velocity profile is presented for all the three part.
