Effect Investigation of Vibration on 500kV AC Transformer Caused by HVDC System under Monopole Operation

Abstract

When the HVDC system works in monopole ground return mode, dc current flows through the neutral of ac power transformer with the neutral grounded, which will enhance its vibration . In the debugging of the Yibin-Jinhua high voltage direct current (HVDC) system, the vibration testing system was applied by the researchers to detect the vibration signal of the 500kV transformer in the Luzhou substation, which is nearby the grounding substation. The spectrum distribution of the transformer vibration signal is analyzed by means of the wavelet transform, the vibration acoustic fingerprint and three typical characteristic parameters including the distribution percentage of spectral energy、the energy radio of odd and even harmonic and the waveform distortion radio, are extracted respectively. When the current of HVDC system increased from 0A to 5000A, the impact of the DC bias on the operation status of 500kV transformer was investigated through the change analysis of the vibration acoustic fingerprint and three characteristic parameters. It indicated that the energy radio of odd and even harmonic of the 500kV transformer vibration signal induced significantly with the increase of the current. In addition, the distribution percentage of spectral energy and the vibration acoustic fingerprint changed obviously. It is conducive to assess accurately the effect of the DC bias on the operation status of the transformer.
