PSEUDO-DYNAMIC ANALYSIS FOR SEISMIC EARTH PRESSURE OF RETAINING WALL

Abstract

Based on the shear beam theory of homogeneous soil layer, the motion equation is established under the horizontal earthquake, the horizontal displacement and acceleration response of slope is derived. The defects of the slope with rigid assumptions and constant acceleration along the slope hight are improved using the pseudo-dynamic method and the horizontal acceleration obtained, when seismic earth pressure is calculated. Then the formula of active and passive earth pressure is derived. Combined with the actual the project, the influence of  the angle of filling behind retaining wall, internal friction angle, retaining wall and filling interface friction angle on the total earth pressure is analyzed and the improved method is compared with the traditional earth pressure methods. The results show that the seismic earth pressure is like a sine or cosine wave with time, the seismic active and passive earth pressure increases with the increase of the angle of filling behind retaining wall, the total seismic active earth pressure decreases with the increase of internal friction angle and filling interface friction angle gradually, while the total passive earth pressure increases. Traditional methods is not safe due to smaller calculated value.
