Research on the Buffer Protection Performance of the Air Cushion Caused by Inflation Pressure

Abstract

To study the influence of the inflation pressure of air cushion and the deformation of thin film on the impact load, the model of air shock compression is established. The analysis result indicates that the general effect of the increasing inflation pressure is that the decrease of the dynamic stiffness and the impact load of air cushion. The reason is the increasing inflation pressure will make the air cushion film increases during the process of impact tensile deformation, and decrease the volume ratio of air cushion. The volume ratio is higher than inflation pressure in the model. Based on the energy absorption mechanism of the elastic deformation air cushion, the elastic deformation of air cushion film can improve the cushioning protective performance of air cushion by prolong the acting time of the impact load and the absorbing energy. The results of tests show that under the premise of plastic yield limit of the thin film, the increasing air cushion gas pressure can reduce the peak impact load of air cushion and improving the buffer protection performance of air cushion.The air pressure increases every 20 kpa that the peak impact load ruduces more than 10%.
