Experimental study on seismic performance of connections between bundled lipped channel-concrete (BLC-C) composite wall and steel beam

Abstract

The bundled lipped channel-concrete (BLC-C) composite wall has no edge members that the beam need to be directly connect to the narrow wall sides. Under this condition, two beam wall connection configuration types were proposed and four full-scaled quasit-static cyclic tests were performed with one vertical stiffened connection and three end-plate connections. Connection type, and end-plate thickness are selected as the primary comparing factors, and their influence on the seismic performance and failure mode of beam wall connections are carefully studied. The failure mode, hysteresis curves, stiffness degradation, ductility, and energy dissipation capacity were analyzed to evaluate the seismic behaviors. Both connections all showed good load carrying capacity and satisfied ductility with a full and stable spindle hysteretic hoop, representing a slow stiffness degradation and strong energy dissipation capacity. The experimental ductility ratios and dissipation ratios ,which satisfied the seismic design requirements of American specification AISC341-10 and Chinese code GB 50011, proving the applicability of these connections into the practical engineering of BLC-C.
