Experiments on the dynamic tension of overhead conductor under the asynchronous ice shedding

Abstract

Using the transmission line ice shedding experiment system, the dynamic tension characteristics of conductors under asynchronous ice shedding are studied. For the effects of “unzipping” sequential ice shedding model on the dynamic tension of the conductor, three different ice shedding models are designed in the tests, which are from terminal to terminal, from two ends to the middle span and from the middle span to two ends. The results show that the dynamic tension fluctuates more intense when the ice shedding method is from middle span to both of the ends. The results show that the dynamic tension fluctuates more intense for ice shedding from middle to both ends of the span. The influence of ice shedding velocity to the dynamic tension of the conductor is studied by the use of terminal to terminal ice shedding model. The results show, (1) for time intervals are in the order of magnitude of 10 milliseconds, the shorter time interval will produces more severe tension fluctuation in conductor, and (2) for time intervals are in the order of magnitude of 100 milliseconds, the dynamic tensions of conductor are attenuated in a line style and approach to the static tensions of conductor.
