Numerical Simulation on crossing pressure wave characteristics of two high-speed trains in the tunnel

Abstract

The drastic crossing pressure of two high-speed trains in the tunnel will produce the larger aerodynamic loads, also may damage the fixed equipment in the tunnel and cause the fatigue failure problem of train’s body and component, bring hidden trouble to the safe operation of the train. Adopting the algorithm of pressure correction of three-dimensional, unsteady and compressible turbulent flow, numerical simulation shows that the pressure waves were brought by two high-speed trains passing by each other in a tunnel with the same or different velocity, using the commercial CFD software and an arbitrary sliding interfaces mesh technique. The results revealed the pressure fluctuation around the trains during them passing each other. The details of pressure distribution characteristics were well depicted the train head to head, head to tail and tail to tail passing each other. Furthermore, the pressure variation performances of the train’s surface and near to tunnel regions were concluded under the same and different speed. As referable results, a fitted relationship between the absolute value of negative pressure peak and the train speed was provided.
