Computational Analysis of Impact of Pad Lining Arc on Disc Brake Squeal

Abstract

Lining arc of brake pad play very important role in disc brake squeal. A finite element complex analysis model of a ventilated disc brake was established and validated through bench test of brake squeal. Based on this model, influence of lining arc on brake squeal trend was investigated by calculations to disc brakes with five lining arcs. At the same time, the influence mechanism was studies form the view point of natural characteristics of brake pad, pressured distribution between pad and disc, instable frequencies and modal coupling. It was shown that the structural characterization and pressure distribution variations due to lining arc variations can cause the difference of instable modes, as well as frequencies and mode shapes.
