Study the Bifurcation Characteristic of a Cracked Rotor-bearing System Under the Air-Exciting Force of Steam Turbine

Abstract

The dynamic model of a cracked rotor-bearing system under the air-exciting force of steam turbine was established. Numerical method was adopted to analyze the bifurcation and chaos characteristics of the system, and the effects of the air-exciting force of steam turbine and the depths of the crack on the vibration response of the rotor were discussed by the Poincare’s cross-section, portraits of central point and the bifurcation diagrams. The results indicated that, the dynamic responses of the system advance to occur and the chaotic motion region decreases due to the air-exciting force of the stream turbine. Moreover, the air-exciting force of the stream turbine play a dominant role in case of shallow cracks, and period-eight motions appears in the super-critical speed region. As the depth increase, the chaotic motion region decreases and almost disappears around the critical speed. And the quasi-period motions become a long region for period-three in the super-critical speed region. It indicated that this research may contribution to further understanding of the failure mechanism of such a rotor-bearing system.
