A bionic approach of stiffer layout for plate and shell structure under harmonic excitation for noise reduction

Abstract

Structural mechanical criterion for leaf vein growth is extracted by analyzing leaf venation morphogenesis. A primary vein growth is governed by minimal elastic strain energy while a secondary vein growth by releasing maximal shear stress. At each junction, leaf veins are oriented, as well as their width, according to a vector equilibrium equation. A bionic design model of reinforced plate/shell structure is established featured with leaf vein branched structure. By similar principle, a bionic venation growth algorithm is presented to address stiffer layout design for plate/shell structures to diminish structural acoustic radiation. Taking typical thin plate structures for instance, stiffer layout designs are implemented by bionic vein growth to verify its practicability and effectiveness in noise reduction.
