Shaking table tests for a chuan-dou timber building with viscoelastic dampers

Abstract

Shaking table tests for a model of a two-storey Chuan-Dou timber building constructed according to the requirement of Yi-Ke-Yin of Yunnan Province were conducted. Its failure pattern, dynamic response, strain response, torsional effect, shear force distribution, bending moment variation and energy dissipation capability were analyzed. The results showed that the structural model meets the design requirements of no damage under frequent earthquakes,repairable under moderate earthquakes and no collapse under rare earthquakes; the structural model has an obvious torsional effect; inter-story shear force distribution depends on mass distribution; the models bending moment increases with increase in earthquake excitation; there was no plastic damage in the structural model; the inter-story energy dissipation capacity is the largest at the first floor, latger at the second floor and the smallest at the roof.
