Abstract

Concentration parameter method is a major solution in seismic analysis and design of bridges. From the finite element perspective, concentration parameter method considers the stratum semi-infinite space as a mechanical model without geometric dimensions, which is called macro-element in this paper. And the determination methods of the model, such as the interaction spring stiffness, the damping and the equivalent mass for the soil around the piles are crucial to the calculation precision. Having considered common types of soil in engineering and different input of seismic waves, the thesis makes a comparative study of the Boulanger model, the ‘m’ method and the Mindlin method (which is equivalent to linear spring) based on a large number of parameter analysis, aiming to explain the key point of parameter selection for horizontal soil-pile spring which has a strong influence on seismic response of bridge.
